Matthew Harvey’s principal practice areas are corporations, corporate insolvency, shipping, international sale of goods, arbitration and conflict of laws.
He is recognised as one of Australia’s leading barristers in the areas of insolvency and reorganisation law and shipping and maritime law. He has been ranked in Chambers Asia Pacific since 2015 (currently, the Bar, Shipping, Band 1), and in Best Lawyers Australia since 2012 (currently, Insolvency & Reorganisation Law, Litigation, Shipping & Maritime Law, and Transportation Law). He is currently listed in Doyle’s Guide as the market leader for junior counsel in Transportation Law and is also listed as a recommended barrister for Insolvency & Reconstruction Law.
He is a past President of the Maritime Law Association of Australia and New Zealand and was elected in 2018 a titulary member of the Comité Maritime International.
He appears regularly in the Supreme Court, Federal Court, Court of Appeal and in international and domestic arbitrations. He has appeared in the High Court and the Supreme Courts of various States.
He has also conducted a number of domestic and international arbitrations, delivering numerous awards.
