Fiona Cameron practises as a barrister, arbitrator and mediator in relation to disputes across Australia and internationally.
Her areas of expertise include technology, engineering and construction disputes; transport, aviation and maritime law; complex commercial; and taxation matters. She is recommended in Doyle’s Guides to Leading Construction and Infrastructure Junior Counsel, and to Leading Commercial Litigation and Dispute Resolution Junior Counsel. Fiona also has an interest in sports law, and sits as a member of the Victorian Amateur Football Association’s Independent Integrity Hearing Panel.
Fiona is a Fellow of the Chartered Institute of Arbitrators, a member of the Arbitrators’ and Mediators’ Institute of New Zealand and a Grade 3 Arbitrator (Resolution Institute). She is a nationally accredited mediator under the National Mediator Accreditation Scheme. Fiona also accepts appointments as tribunal secretary, having completed the ICC’s Training for Tribunal Secretaries.
Recent experience
Some examples of Fiona’s recent experience include disputes relating to:
- energy, mining and resources projects, such as in relation to an LNG facility, renewables projects including wind turbine generators and a solar farm, mining tenements and joint venture arrangements, land fill operations and electricity infrastructure
- technology and product liability matters, such as a dispute in relation to the suitability and manufacturing quality of components for a public emergency address system in a large tunnel project, and a dispute concerning the design of a private passenger jet
- large scale construction projects, such as the design and construction of a recycled water treatment plant, and various master-planned residential precinct or apartment developments
- maritime law, such as in relation to the international carriage of goods and commodities and ship collisions
- company and consumer law, contractual breaches and other issues of corporate conduct including allegations of fraudulent conduct, conspiracy to cause economic harm, oppressive conduct and breaches of directors’ duties, and
- transfer pricing as between Australian resident taxpayers and international associated entities

Previous experience
Before being called to the Bar in 2015, Fiona was Associate to the Honourable Justice Pagone of the Federal Court of Australia, assisting his Honour in a wide range of commercial and public law matters. Prior to this, Fiona was an Associate at the Supreme Court of Victoria to Justices Davies, Bongiorno and Hargrave, where she assisted in matters in the commercial trial division and in criminal and civil appeals. Fiona was previously employed by Crawford Legal, an Adelaide-based boutique commercial and construction law firm.
Fiona regularly presents on topics within her areas of practice, both to firms as part of their CLE programs and through the VicBar CPD program. Her recent CPD presentations have included:
