Sam Blashki practises in commercial litigation and dispute resolution. He acts in contractual, property, trusts, equity and consumer law disputes, including class actions. He is regularly briefed in matters before the Supreme Court of Victoria.

Sam also speaks and advises on issues concerning artificial intelligence and legal practice. He is a founding member of the Victorian Bar’s AI Steering Committee, and an Affiliate of the University of Melbourne’s Centre for AI and Digital Ethics (CAIDE). He has been accepted into the Master of Laws program at UC Berkeley (commencing 2027), where he will focus on AI law and regulation. He has acted in disputes involving artificial intelligence and software systems. Sam speaks regularly on artificial intelligence, including as Chair of the AI Literacy Panel at the 2026 New Barristers Conference.

Prior to coming to the Bar, Sam was Associate to the Honourable Justice Peter Riordan, then Principal Judge of the Commercial Court in the Supreme Court of Victoria. Sam was a solicitor at the Victorian Government Solicitor’s Office, where he instructed senior counsel in proceedings successfully defending regulatory approvals for projects such as the West Gate Tunnel Project (see [2022] VSCA 144) and Hawkesdale Wind Farm (see (2022) 71 VR 550).

Sam maintains a pro bono practice, including a number of matters led by Ron Merkel SC.

Sam read with Damien McAloon SC and his senior mentor is Oren Bigos KC.

Academics

Sam graduated with first class honours, in the top 10 of his LLB cohort at Monash University. He lectures in Torts in the Monash JD program and was awarded a 2025 Monash Education Award. He has reported for the Victorian Reports, and has had his legal writing published in the UNSW Law Journal Forum, Tort Law Journal, and CommBar Law Digest.

Commercial and Consumer Law Disputes

• Consumer law class action in the Supreme Court of Victoria (led by O Bigos KC and E Dias, ongoing).
• Appeal to Court of Appeal on question of statutory interpretation and interstate service (led by O Bigos KC, ongoing).
• Advice on application of the Australian Consumer Law (led by A Dinelli KC).

• Advice on s 28 of the Sale of Land Act 1962 in respect of $90 million property transaction (led by O Bigos KC).

Equity and Trusts Disputes

• Dispute over $20 million property investment held in unit trust (led by J Kohn, settled during trial). Appeared unled at contested interlocutory hearing.
• Breach of fiduciary duties and breach of contractual warranties claim in respect of sale of multi-million dollar company (led by D Mence, ongoing).
• Breach of fiduciary duties and unjust enrichment claim by manufacturing company against former senior employee, including successfully obtaining court transfer, freezing orders, resisting subpoena objections, obtaining strike out and judgment in default of defence (unled).
