Jamie practises in commercial and public law.
He has particular experience in insolvency (corporate and personal), debt recovery and securities enforcement, corporate and commercial disputes, consumer law, franchising, construction and sports law.
In the public law field, he has advised and appeared in both merits and judicial review matters across a diverse range of areas.
Jamie was admitted as a barrister and solicitor in New Zealand in 2010, where he regularly appeared as counsel in general commercial, construction and insolvency matters before the District Courts, High Court and Court of Appeal. He moved to Victoria in 2015 and subsequently worked in the insolvency, commercial disputes and administrative law teams of a number of national Australian firms.
Clients say that Jamie “has the ability to rapidly get across complex legal and evidentiary issues, and then present them in a persuasive and practical way.”
He holds a current New Zealand practising certificate and accepts briefs to advise and appear in New Zealand matters. He has particular experience in cross-jurisdictional matters, including stay applications under the Trans-Tasman Proceedings Act, and recognition and enforcement of judgments in each jurisdiction.
Jamie also has a keen interest in electoral law and has advised on electoral financing restrictions and appeared in electoral disputes.
Jamie began legal practice as an intern to Christopher Finlayson KC, then Attorney-General of New Zealand. He read with Dr Charles Parkinson KC and his senior mentor was David Batt KC.

- Victoria State Emergency Service Authority v SEM Fire & Rescue Pty Ltd & Anor (led by Dr C Parkinson KC, ongoing) – acting for the manufacturers of 68 Heavy Rescue Trucks alleged by the State Emergency Service to be defective
- Impiombato & Anor v BHP Group Ltd (led by R Doyle KC and Dr C Parkinson KC) – shareholder group proceeding arising from the 2015 collapse of the Fundão Dam in Brazil (settled before trial)
- Re ABD Group Construction Pty Ltd (Recs and Mgrs Apptd) (In Liq) [2025] VSC 277 (unled) – orders obtained under s 588FF(3)(b) of the Corporations Act 2001 (Cth) extending time to bring voidable transaction claims totalling approximately $23 million
- Eastbound Estate Pty Ltd v DC Consolidated Investments Pty Ltd [2024] VSC 40; (No 2) [2024] VSC 130 (led by P Solomon KC) – dispute concerning termination of a contract for sale of land
- AHG WA (2015 Pty Ltd v Mercedes-Benz Australia/Pacific Pty Ltd [2023] FCA 1022 (led by T Castle SC and Dr C Parkinson KC) – acting for franchise owners seeking relief under the Competition and Consumer Act 2010 (Cth)
- Acting for Timbercorp Finance Pty Ltd (in liq) in various proceedings for recovery of loan funds, including test cases, appeals, summary judgment applications, enforcement of compromises and bankruptcy proceedings
