Sam practises primarily in commercial and public law. He has a broad practice with interests in corporate and commercial disputes, class actions, building and construction, property disputes, estate litigation, anti-discrimination law and human rights. Sam also accepts briefs in criminal law matters, with a particular interest in white collar crime and commercial fraud.
Sam’s work at the Bar has included regularly appearing as an advocate in numerous courts and tribunals, preparing written advice, and drawing and settling pleadings, affidavits and submissions. He appears regularly on behalf of the Director of Public Prosecutions, and has appeared on behalf of the Attorney-General.
Before coming to the Bar, Sam was Senior Associate to His Honour Judge Cosgrave (then Head of the Commercial Division) and Associate to Her Honour Judge Marich of the County Court of Victoria.
Prior to his time at the Court, Sam worked at Slater & Gordon in the Commercial and Project Litigation practice group. As part of the Class Actions team, Sam gained experience working on a number of securities class actions brought against multinational and publicly listed companies, as well as a mass tort proceeding against a statutory corporation.
Sam holds a Juris Doctor and a Bachelor of Arts (with first class honours) from the University of Melbourne. As part of his Juris Doctor, Sam developed a particular interest in cross-border disputes and private international law. He also holds a Diploma of Languages and is fluent in French, and studied at the Université de Paris-II (Panthéon-Assas) as part of his Juris Doctor.
Sam is a member of the Commercial Bar Association.
Sam read with Dr Charles Parkinson KC and his senior mentor was Robert Craig KC.
