Haroon is an experienced advocate and regularly appears in superior courts and specialist tribunals. He is often called upon to advise on sensitive and urgent matters. His clients include high-profile individuals, governments and listed companies. 

He has degrees in Arts and Law (with Honours) from the University of Adelaide. In 2003 he completed a Master of Laws at Columbia University in New York where he graduated as a Harlan Fiske Stone Scholar.

Prior to his admission to practice he was an associate to the Hon. Justice John Perry AO in the Supreme Court of South Australia and later to the Hon. Justice Mary Gaudron in the High Court of Australia.

Commercial Law

Haroon regularly advises and appears in commercial matters before State and Federal courts and tribunals. He has acted as counsel in disputes concerning: high value contracts; shareholders rights; directors duties; restraints of trade; industrial disputes; copyright; breach of confidence; trade marks; domain names; data breach; privacy; information technology; energy law; corporate insolvency and competition and consumer law.

Haroon also has significant experience in advising clients on the conduct of inquries, public examinations and regulatory investigations.

Media, Entertainment & Sports Law

Haroon regularly acts for leading publishers and broadcasters throughout Australia, as well as high profile individuals and governments. His clients have included the Seven Network, Nine Network, Fairfax (now Nine Publishing), News Corporation and the ABC. He has also acted for Oscar and Grammy award winning artists as well as prominent sporting organisations, administrators and athletes.  He regularly advises on defamation, contempt, privacy, reputation management and suppression orders.

Haroon is also a member of the Advisory Committee for the Centre for Media and Communications Law at the University of Melbourne. 

Planning, Environment & Local Government

He has considerable experience in local government matters and welcomes briefs in planning, environmental and development disputes as well as panel hearings. He has acted for objectors, permit applicants, responsible authorities and interested parties in matters arising under the: Planning & Environment Act, Local Government Act, Environment Protection Act, Environment Effects ActHeritage Act, Aboriginal Heritage Act,  Crown Land (Reserves) Act, Public Health and Wellbeing Act, Liquor Control Reform Act, Administrative Law Act and Major Transport Projects Facilitation Act.

Public Law & Regulatory Matters

Haroon has extensive experience acting for public sector clients who exercise regulatory functions and powers. This includes appearing as counsel in appeals, judicial review proceedings, merits review hearings, disciplinary proceedings, compulsory examinations, inquiries and prosecutions. He is often briefed by regulatory authorities, regulated entities and practitioners in proceedings at first instance, on review and on appeal. 

Alternative Dispute Resolution

In addition to his work as an advocate, Haroon is a nationally accredited mediator. He welcomes briefs to mediate disputes in his areas of practice.
