Haroon
Hassan

Haroon is an experienced advocate. He regularly appears in superior courts, royal commissions, public inquries, compulsory examinations, regulatory investigations and specialist tribunals. He is often called upon to advise on sensitive and urgent matters. His clients include high-profile individuals, governments and listed companies.

Haroon has degrees in Arts and Law (with Honours) from the University of Adelaide. In 2003 he completed a Master of Laws at Columbia University in New York where he graduated as a Harlan Fiske Stone Scholar. Prior to being admitted he worked as an associate to the Hon. Justice John Perry AO in the Supreme Court of South Australia and later to the Hon. Justice Mary Gaudron in the High Court of Australia.

Administrative & Public Law

Haroon often appears on behalf of Federal, State and Local governments, public sector agencies, corporate entities and individuals in matters at first instance, on review and on appeal. He has extensive experience acting for public sector clients who exercise regulatory functions and powers.  

Commercial Law

He regularly acts in commercial matters before State and Federal courts and tribunals. He has acted as counsel in disputes concerning high value contracts, shareholders rights, directors duties, restraints of trade, industrial disputes, copyright, breach of confidence, trade marks, domain names, data breach, privacy, information technology, energy law, corporate insolvency as well as competition and consumer law.

Media, Entertainment & Sports Law

Haroon acts for leading publishers and broadcasters throughout Australia. His clients have included the ABC, Fairfax, News Corporation, Nine and Seven. He has also acted for Oscar and Grammy award winning artists and other prominent individuals.  He routinely advises private and public sector clients on defamation, contempt, privacy, reputation management and suppression orders. He is also a member of the Advisory Committee for the Centre for Media and Communications Law at the University of Melbourne. 

Planning, Environment & Local Government Law

Haroon has significant experience in local government matters. He welcomes briefs in planning, environmental and development disputes as well as panel hearings. He has acted for objectors, permit applicants, responsible authorities and interested parties in a wide variety of matters.
