Robert
Heath QC

Before taking silk in November 2017, Robert acted in a wide range of commercial disputes including arbitrations.  He has extensive experience working on heavy and complex cases as part of a team made up of solicitors and other counsel.  He is an experienced trial advocate.

Robert is briefed regularly to give advice (in conference and in writing).  He is also briefed to act as a mediator and as an arbitrator.

In recent years, Robert has obtained significant experience in different areas including infrastructure disputes, class actions and professional negligence matters.   For example, he has:

  • acted for the Project Company in different proceedings relating to the new Royal Adelaide Hospital, a building project in South Australia;
  • acted for the Linking Melbourne Authority in proceedings relating to the East West Link project, a road project in Victoria;
  • provided advice to governments and statutory bodies;
  • acted in professional negligence disputes;
  • acted as junior counsel in a number of class actions – including the Vioxx class action, the Thalidomide class action and the Timbercorp class action;
  • conducted investigations for a national sporting body;
  • appeared in disciplinary proceedings;
  • acted as a mediator.

Robert has appeared in a wide variety of jurisdictions, including arbitrations, coronial inquests , equity proceedings, contempt proceedings, asset confiscation proceedings and insolvency proceedings.

As a qualified arbitrator, Robert is a member of the following bodies: the Chartered Institute of Arbitrators (MCIArb); the Institute of Arbitrators and Mediators Australia; and the Australian Centre for International Commercial Arbitration (ACICA).  Robert is also an experienced and nationally accredited mediator. 

Robert is a member of the Victorian Amateur Football Association Tribunal; and he is the honorary lawyer to the Royal Historical Society of Victoria Inc.
