Lo Piccolo

Lisa has a broad commercial and public law practice.  She has extensive experience acting for and against Commonwealth and state ministers, departments, agencies and regulators in investigations and litigation.

Prior to coming to the Bar, Lisa worked as a Principal Solicitor in the Office of Litigation in the Australian Government Solicitor, Canberra.  She conducted general litigation on behalf of the Commonwealth in the areas of trade practices, constitutional, native title and other public interest litigation.

She signed the Bar Roll in November 2000 and quickly developed a general commercial practice involving contract and transaction disputes and property disputes (including retail leasing and domestic building).  She also appeared and advised in Corporations Act and Australian trade practices and Consumer Law matters.  Her practice had a particular emphasis on public law matters including administrative law (merits and judicial review) and regulatory disputes.

Lisa was appointed Solicitor-General of Nauru in late 2010.  She spent three years working in the Republic of Nauru as Solicitor-General, and subsequently, Secretary for Justice and Border Control.  She was the first law officer of the Republic and conducted and oversaw all litigation both locally and internationally.  She has an extensive working knowledge of the laws of Nauru (including the Constitution) and other Islands of the Pacific (specifically Fiji).

Lisa was then appointed a Member of the Migration and Refugee Tribunal, and Member of the Migration and Refugee Division of the Administrative Appeals Tribunal.   She has developed expert knowledge in all migration law matters including the Act and regulations, AAT reviews, and Federal Circuit and Federal Court appeals.

Lisa resumed full time practice at the Victorian Bar in late 2017.  She is available to accept briefs to appear in all State and Federal Courts in commercial matters including property and planning disputes, contractual disputes concerning trade contracts, development agreements and companies and partnerships, and consumer law matters, as well as all merits and judicial review proceedings - specifically migration law and  planning and environment law.

She is also a registered migration agent MARN 1799388.
