On 30 July 2015, Annette Charak presented to the Victorian Bar on ‘Tackling grammatical pitfalls’. The session, chaired by Peter Heerey AM QC, tackled common grammatical quandaries, including: are ‘which’ and ‘that’ interchangeable? When can ‘that’ be dropped? Can a comma really change the meaning of a sentence? Are there fixed rules about the use of commas? How is the use of apostrophes changing?
Annette has long been focused on excellence in legal writing. Immediately before coming to the Bar, she ran her own consultancy, training lawyers, particularly in non-English speaking countries, to improve their written communications.
