Sam Blashki practices in commercial and public law, with a focus on property and infrastructure.
Sam was ranked top 10 in law at Monash University (LLB, First Class Hons).
Sam was Associate to the Honourable Justice Peter Riordan (Principal Judge of the Commercial Court, Supreme Court of Victoria), where he assisted in managing commercial trials, developed new e-trial processes, and engaged regularly with Judicial Registrar Julian Hetyey (now Associate Judge) on case management.
As a solicitor at the Victorian Government Solicitor’s Office, Sam:
- acted regularly in compensation matters arising under the Land Acquisition and Compensation Act 1986 and Part 5 of the Planning and Environment Act 1987, dealing with complex valuation and legal issues;
- instructed senior counsel in proceedings concerning approvals for infrastructure such as the West Gate Tunnel Project (see Melton City Council v Minister for Planning [2022] VSCA 144) and Hawkesdale Wind Farm (see People of the Small Town of Hawkesdale Inc v Minister for Planning (2022) 71 VR 550); and
- advised on statutory interpretation and regulatory issues.
Sam read with Damien McAloon SC and his senior mentor is Oren Bigos KC.

Property law and sale of land
- Dispute in respect of sale of farmland (led by O Bigos KC and A Bartfeld, ongoing).
- Dispute over $20 million property investment held in unit trust (led by J Kohn, settled during trial).
- Advice on s 28 of the Sale of Land Act 1962 in respect of $90 million property transaction (led by O Bigos KC).
- Advice to major bank on discharge of a mortgage and enforceability of a deed of settlement (led by D McAloon SC).
Reinstatement application before Gitsham JR to enable property settlement (unled).
Contracts and Australian Consumer Law
- Dispute in respect of advisory fee (led by O Bigos KC, ongoing).
- Breach of contract, Goods Act 1958, and Australian Consumer Law claim regarding defects in software and automated machinery (led by C Exell, settled after mediation by P Santamaria KC).
Equity and fiduciary duties
- Breach of fiduciary duties and breach of contractual warranties claim in respect of sale of multi-million dollar company (led by D Mence, ongoing).
- Breach of fiduciary duties and tracing claim by manufacturing company against former senior employee, including successfully obtaining freezing orders and resisting subpoena objections (unled, ongoing).
Sam has also been briefed in led and unled pro bono matters, including matters led by R Merkel SC and A Dinelli KC.
Innovation and emerging technologies
Sam is a member of the Innovation and Technology Committee of the Victorian Bar. He focuses on emerging technologies including generative AI, particularly the resulting novel liability issues and impacts on legal practice.
Teaching and publications
Sam lectures in Torts in the Monash JD program and received a 2025 Monash Teaching Award.
Sam is a reporter for the Victorian Reports, and has had his legal writing published in the UNSW Law Journal Forum, Tort Law Journal, and CommBar Law Digest.
