Nik has a broad practice in commercial law, with a particular focus on corporations disputes and insolvency.
Prior to coming to the Bar, Nik was a Senior Associate at Mills Oakley, where he acted for clients across a range of industries in commercial, corporations, insolvency, trade practices, and credit disputes. He regularly appeared in the Supreme and Federal Courts in liquidators’ examinations, other insolvency-related applications, and civil interlocutory applications.
From 2019 to 2020, Nik was an Associate to the Honourable Justice Michael Sifris KC in the Trial Division of the Commercial Court of the Supreme Court of Victoria.
Nik holds a Master of Laws (First Class Honours) from the University of Melbourne, and Bachelor degrees of Laws and Commerce (Accounting) from the University of Adelaide. His academic work has been published in leading journals, cited by superior courts, and recognised with the Baxt Prize by the Law Council of Australia.
Nik is reading with Damien McAloon and his senior mentor is Carl Moller SC.
Cases in which Nik appeared as a solicitor include the following:
- Re J & G Flooring Pty Ltd [2024] VSC 103: Nik appeared for a creditor who secured a winding up order and opposed a director’s application to have the winding up terminated. The application was dismissed principally for commercial morality and public interest reasons.
- Emerald No 2 (SA) Pty Ltd v Matthews, in the matter of Sapphire (SA) Pty Ltd [2025] FCA 695: Nik appeared for a director who sought orders that replaced a liquidator and transitioned an 11-year long liquidation to a voluntary administration for the purpose of facilitating a proposed deed of company arrangement. This was the first case in which such orders have been made on a director’s application.
